Lil Wayne finally released his very very long overdue Tha Carter V album yesterday.
Tha Carter V is the rappers 12th album and his first album not released under Cash Money Records. The album includes features from Kendrick Lamar, Travis Scott, Snoop Dogg, Nicki Minaj, Ashanti, and the late XXXTentacion.
To celebrate the release of the album, Weezy worked with 14 different brands for limited-edition merch drops. Also, prior to the release of the album, the rapper dropped a three-minute video clip where he revealed that he had a “special surprise” for fans at 5 p.m., which turned out to be a video clip of Lil Wayne discussing the album.
In the video, Weezy goes on to appreciate his fans wholeheartedly for supporting him through the years, which saw the rise, fall and rise again of his relationship with mentor and Young Money co-founder Birdman. “Every ounce of anything I have left in my heart, it goes to y’all. Honestly, my fans, the supporters, the world. Of course, it’s my family and God first, and I am nothing, absolutely nothing without my fans,” he said.
The album’s long delay was partly due to the legal battle between Wayne and Birdman, which eventually concluded in July 2018, making Lil Wayne the sole owner of Young Money.
