Shirazee is an Afrobeat newcomer
The Benin born artiste, who currently resides in New York, has captured our attention with his recent efforts. The afrobeat singer released his debut EP Home & Away in June this year and has not looked back ever since. The EP’s lead single ‘Make Wild’ was enough to get us excited for the final project, especially with the colourful music video that came along with it.
In Home & Away, Shirazee ticks every box expected from an Afrobeat musician these days. The songs are catchy and have enough bounce to make you want to get on your feet. The 6-track EP is accompanied by features from American singer, Saint Jhn, and British Ghanian musician, Eugy.
The Yoruba speaking Shirazee can easily be mistaken for a Nigerian musician with several references to the African giant scattered across the EP. This is quite evident in ‘Fifa’ where he references Nigerian artists Davido, Niniola & Mr Eazi.
Shortly after the release of Home & Away, Shirazee joined forces with Haitian DJ, Michael Brun on ‘Soweto’. The catchy and mesmerising collaboration was on repeat on our playlist for daysss!
We look forward to Shirazee’s future projects and features. In the meantime, let’s enjoy Home & Away – Stream it below and tell us what you think.
